Weekend
Happy weekend! Hope it's a lovely one. With Hallowe'en falling on Friday this year, there'll be ghoulish festivities continuing straight through the weekend. Besides the fun kids always have, I love the surreal note it brings to everyday life, seeing people in costume walking down the street. As for us, we'll be watching vintage horror movies and eating Hallowe'en chocolate — how about you?

A Modern Farmhouse
Built in 1730 and located in the countryside surrounding The Hague, what was once a barn is now the beautiful home of wallpaper designer Rick Vintage, wife Esther and their two daughters Ella and Lux. With a focus on raw materials, the renovated areas harmonize with such perfect details as the massive original beams running throughout the space. Love. More here on Marie Claire Maison.

On damp, chilly late autumn days, a warm place to curl up with a book or with a movie on is pretty much perfect.

Vintage Deauville Beach Fashion
Wonderful collection of vintage 1930s photos of the chic at the beach in Deauville, France. I am loving the fashion of extra wide linen pants paired with a little top — still a truly classic summer look.

Italian Beauty
Set within a fairy tale garden, this lovely neoclassical eighteenth century villa on Lake Como in Italy was recently restored after a chequered history. Aristocratic in its origins, it gradually declined, going through several owners, partitioned into apartments, and then abandoned after World War II. But its lowest point would have to be in the 1980s, when it was purchased by a company that proceeded to tear out all the original marble fireplaces and windows, carpeted over the floors and did all it could to erase the character of the villa. Happily its new owner was keen to recapture its original spirit, while updating it for modern living, too — the marble fireplaces have returned. More here on Marie Claire Maison.

Black, Beige and Pink
I was immediately intrigued when I saw this lovely Stockholm family apartment over at My Scandinavian Home — pale pink is often a sugary sort of colour, yet here it's used in such a crisp and modern way, contrasting beautifully with black and beige. Designed by Pella Hedeby and Marie Ramse for JM, it works perfectly with the strong lines of the architecture by Gert Wingårdh. More here.

Atelier: Emily Sutton
Today I'm admiring the lovely work of English illustrator and artist Emily Sutton, whose exquisite images have appeared in books for the Victoria and Albert Museum, Faber and Faber, Penguin, Random House and brands such as Hermes as well as Fortnum and Mason. Love. See her work in person at her upcoming show at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP), November 15 2014 to February 22 2015. You can view more on her website, too.

Colour Play
The decor of the Copenhagen home of artist/designer Anne Sofie Kamphøvener and her partner, artist Ash Ebbesen, has an easygoing modern look, enlivened here and there with a pretty palette of tomato red, French blue and warm grey — a perfect contrast to the simple black and white throughout. Love. More here on Femina.
